Frequently asked questions.

Why choose Sonnen?
Sonnen was founded in 2005 and researches, develops and manufactures its analyzers in-house, with strict requirements on product quality, measurement precision and data integrity. The company is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, participated in drafting GB/T 22923-2008 and JJF 109-2012, and in 2008 won a three-round comparison test organized by the China National Fertilizer Testing Center. The product range covers Kjeldahl nitrogen/protein analysis, digestion, titration, fiber and fat determination, with configuration options to match different laboratory requirements.
What is the difference between semi-auto nitrogen analyzer and auto nitrogen analyzer?
The key difference is whether a titration system is built in. An automatic nitrogen analyzer (such as the K06, K12, K18 or K1306) distills and titrates in one run and reports the result directly, with no manual operation during the analysis. A semi-automatic model (such as the K1301) automates distillation only — the distillate is titrated separately by the operator. The K1305 automates distillation but has no built-in titrator, so it also works with off-line titration.
What is the difference of the Type A, Type B and Type C for auto nitrogen analyzer?
The three types differ in the determination modules fitted. Type A determines nitrogen, total nitrogen and protein. Type B adds nitrate nitrogen determination. Type C adds both nitrate nitrogen and high-nitrogen determination.
What kind of fiber could be tested by Sonnen's fiber determinator?
Sonnen fiber determinators cover crude fiber, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), insoluble dietary fiber and lignin.
How long will it take to test a batch of fiber samples?
About 2 hours per batch, with up to 30 samples tested in one batch.
What is the difference between the semi-auto fiber determinator and auto fiber determinator?
The difference is the degree of automation. The automatic fiber determinator performs reagent addition, waste discharge and cleaning automatically. The semi-automatic model discharges waste automatically, while solvents are added manually by the operator.
What is the difference between the K12 and the K18 Kjeldahl analyzers?
The K18 covers the full K12 function set — both are fully automated Kjeldahl distillation and titration systems sharing the 0.1–240 mg N measuring range, 3–8 minutes per sample, 0.1 µL/step titration accuracy, storage for 5,000,000 test results and an auto-sampler interface for the A20/A35 autosamplers. The K18 adds: ≥99.8% recovery; tighter repeatability (≤0.2% versus ≤0.5% on the K12); data tracking, review and output with five-level management software (operation, review, approval, management, maintenance) for reliable, traceable test information; LIMS connectivity; and optional data-traceability software meeting GMT certification requirements.
Which standards do Sonnen Kjeldahl analyzers work to?
The K12, K18 and K1306 list GB/T 22923-2008 and JJF 109-2012 — both of which Sonnen helped draft. The K1305 and K1301 additionally list the international Kjeldahl standards ISO 1871, ISO 20483, the ISO 8968 (IDF 20) dairy series, ISO 937 (AOAC 981.10) and EN ISO 5983-2, among others. See the Methods & Standards section for details.
Which Sonnen analyzer should I choose for routine Kjeldahl protein testing?
For distillation with off-line titration: the K1305 (automated) or K1301 (semi-automated). For full automation with a built-in titrator: the K06 (100,000-set storage, printer output), the K1306 (2.0 µL/step titration), or the K12/K18 (0.1 µL/step, 5,000,000-record result storage, USB/Wi-Fi/host control; the K18 adds LIMS). All K-series models list 0.1–240 mg N and 3–8 minutes per sample.
Does Sonnen offer automated sample handling for Kjeldahl analysis?
Yes. The K12 and K18 provide an auto-sampler interface for the A20 and A35 autosamplers. The A20 (20-position, rack-type) is the recommended solution for new installations: it accepts a complete 20-position tube rack — straight from Smart 20 digestion — with an automatic door, an auto-extending rack tray and a foot-triggered switch, then runs up to 20 consecutive samples unattended. The A35 (35-position carousel) is the larger-capacity option, running up to 35 samples per batch; samples are loaded individually into the turntable. Both use Sonnen 300 mL digestion tubes.
What is the difference between the A20 and the A35 autosamplers?
The A20 is a 20-position rack-type autosampler: a complete 20-position tube rack transfers as one unit — for example directly from the Smart 20 digester, with no tube-by-tube handling — and its automatic door, auto-extending tray and foot-triggered switch let an operator load a full rack with both hands occupied. The A35 is a 35-position carousel autosampler: it offers the larger batch capacity, but samples are loaded individually into the turntable. For labs running Smart 20 digestion, the A20 gives the smoothest workflow; for maximum batch size, choose the A35.

Buying from Sonnen.

Is Sonnen a manufacturer or a trading company?
Manufacturer. R&D is in Jiading District, Shanghai; production is at our Luoyang manufacturing base. Factory floor videos are embedded on the F22, G100, G350, A20 and Smart 08 product pages, and official product videos are on our YouTube channel.
Where are Sonnen instruments made?
In China: engineered in Shanghai, manufactured in Luoyang, Henan. Full addresses are on the contact page.
Do you provide CE and quality documentation?
Yes. 46 models are CE-certified under the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU (UDEM certificate M.2025.206.C119651, published on the Quality page) — all 36 current product lines plus legacy variants. The company holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Per-unit factory test reports and calibration specifications are sent on request.
What is the lead time?
Confirmed with your quotation; it depends on model and configuration. Every inquiry is answered within 24 hours (GMT+8).
What after-sales commitments do you make in writing?
Six: 24-hour response, lifetime spare-parts supply, long-term software updates, and more — listed in full on this page.
Does your software connect to a LIMS?
The K18 data package provides five-level user management (operation, review, approval, administration, maintenance) with audit trail and LIMS connectivity.
Can you supply spare parts and consumables long-term?
Yes. Spare parts are supplied for the instrument lifetime, and filter-bag consumables (GB3 / FB25) are stock items with free trial kits for new customers.
Can your filter bags replace ANKOM F57 / XT4 bags?
Yes. FB25 is the direct replacement for ANKOM F57 fiber bags and GB3 for ANKOM XT4 fat-extraction bags — same bag-method workflow, no instrument modification. Domestic feed groups that switched report equivalent results at roughly half the cost; we ship free trial kits so you can validate recovery and precision in your own lab before changing suppliers. (ANKOM is a trademark of ANKOM Technology Corp., which does not endorse this product.)
